2022 Municipal Election

Elections for municipal government are held every four years on the fourth Monday of October.

The next municipal election will be held Monday, October 24, 2022.

Check that you are on the Voters’ List for municipal elections.

A person must submit an application in order to make any changes to the Voters’ List. The prescribed Form to make amendments to the Voters’ List can be found at the bottom of this page.  It must be filled in and returned to the municipal office.

Who Can Vote in Elections?

Anyone can vote in a municipal election who, on the day of the election, is:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • a Canadian citizen; and
  • either a resident of the municipality or a property owner or tenant or the spouse or same sex partner of an owner or tenant in the municipality during a specified time just before the election.

Your name must be on the voters’ list in order for you to cast a ballot.

Call for Candidates

Who Can Be a Candidate?

A Candidate must be a resident of the municipality or a non-resident owner or tenant of land in the municipality or the spouse of such non-resident owner or tenant;

  • a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old;
  • not legally prohibited from voting; and not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office.
  • You must pay a fee of $100 for a Councillor and $200 for Mayor.

Filing Nominations

Nomination Forms can be filed at the township office from May 2, 2022 to August 18, 2022  (9:00 am to 4:00 pm), and on Nomination Day (August 19, 2022) from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. on the prescribed form and accompanied by acceptable identification,  and the prescribed nomination filing fee of $200 for the Head of Council and $100 for all other offices.

The filing fee is payable by cash, debit, cheque, certified cheque, e-transfer, bank draft or money order. A nomination must be signed by the candidate.

Please contact the Clerk to confirm acceptable identification. Identification must be valid and contain the candidate’s name, qualifying address and signature. NOTE: Identification that requires the person to “write in” an address is not acceptable identification (e.g. Canadian Passport).
